Instructions for completion of online human subjects training via CITI Program

The MSU HRPP/IRB offers online training through the CITI Program. Please note that the CITI Program is NOT tied to the MSU Net ID system, so you must register using the instructions below.

Completion of the required modules takes most people 2-3 hours. You do not have to complete all of the modules at one time. You may stop and return at a later time to complete the rest of the modules by signing in with the user name and password you chose during registration.

Steps to enroll

  1. Go to www.citiprogram.org
  2. If you have already created an account, enter your user name and password. If not, click on “Register” and follow instructions 3 - 4 below to create an account.
  3. Step 1: Select An Institution. Choose Mississippi State University as your Participating Institution. You can skip all other fields and “Continue to Step 2”
  4. Continue registration by completing all requirements in Steps 2-7.
  5. Once you have registered and are logged in, you should be on the Main Menu page. If not, click on “Main Menu” right below the CITI Program logo.

  11. You can skip Questions 3 and 4. Answer Question 5. If you do not have a financial conflict of interest, this course is not required for human subjects research. Then click Submit.
  12. You will now see Group 1. Social/Behavioral/Humanistic Research Investigators and Key Personnel listed under the Mississippi State University Courses.
  13. Click on the course to start it. You can stop and save where you left off at any time. Good Luck!

Note: When you complete all required modules successfully, you may print your completion report through the link "Print" in the Learner's menu. Print or download a Course Completion Report as evidence that you have met institutional requirements. A copy will be sent automatically to your MSU Administrator.
